Did You Notice?

Exciting news! PUMC has recently received a new shipment of candles and candle holders, and even more are expected just in time for Christmas. We want to thank all those who have generously supported the Endowment Committee through contributions, memorials, or celebratory gifts. Thanks to your kindness and the diligent efforts of the Endowment Committee, the Altar Guild has been able to purchase new candles and holders for the altar. This grant will also allow us to purchase a Christ candle, Advent candles, and a candelabrum later this year.

We cannot express enough gratitude for your generosity.

Blessing of the Animals

Join us at NewDay Praise Worship for a special Blessing of the Animals and Pets ceremony during worship on Sunday, October 8. As animal lovers, we appreciate God’s Creation and have a special place in our hearts for the furry, scaly, and feathered friends that fill our lives with love. While we kindly ask that you leave your pets at home this year, we are already working on something cool for next year’s ceremony. But don’t worry; you can still participate by bringing a picture of your pet or favorite animal, a stuffed animal that represents them, or one of their favorite toys to worship on October 8. The blessing of animals is a tradition dating back to the 13th century, in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, a great lover and respecter of animals. We hope you join us for this special ceremony to honor and bless our beloved animal companions.

Prayer Blanket Ministry

The prayer blanket ministry is searching for a new member to join their team. If you know the basics of operating a sewing machine and want to contribute to this wonderful ministry, we would love to have you on board! We will provide you with a sewing/embroidery machine owned by the church, training sessions on how to use the equipment, and all the necessary materials. To find out more, kindly contact Carol Foxworthy at cfoxworthy@att.net.

Prayer Beads

Many religions use prayer beads to aid in focusing the mind during devotional practices. The Rosary is a form of prayer beads used by Catholics; Hindus and Buddhists use mala beads to repeat mantras; and Protestants have their own way of using prayer beads.

Rachel Circle UWF members create prayer beads as a helpful tool for enhancing prayer time or as a gift for others. Each set of beads comes with an information sheet that offers explanations and suggestions for use. A donation of $3.00 is appreciated to help cover the cost of the beads. Checks can be made out to Plainfield UMW.

To request Prayer Beads, please contact Judy Bobb (judybobb@msn.com) or Jan Swinney (jancswinney@gmail.com).

Basic Ministry Budget: Service to Others

This week, we highlight the Basic Ministry Budget.

The operating budget for Plainfield United Methodist Church is more than line items on a spreadsheet. It’s a story of love in action. PUMC uses gifts to the budget to show God’s BIG Love and help others grow in faith.

Out of every dollar you generously give to support the Basic Ministry Budget, 15 cents of it supports Support Systems.

Support Services: $155,002

If PUMC’s building is home base, then support systems keep our home healthy and strong. From kitchen supplies to communion elements, this budget area provides for the critical tools, equipment, and other resources required to execute countless ministries. Examples include printers, regular organ maintenance, in-house media equipment, live-streaming services, office supplies, media subscriptions like RightNow Media, music licenses, digital properties like our website, plus any “odds or ends” you might think of. We couldn’t do what we do without them.

Thank you for supporting our “Support Systems” here at PUMC!

Total 2023 Basic Ministry Budget: $1,033,349

For more information about the PUMC Basic Ministry Budget and the Narrative Budget, see the January or February Circuit Rider or check out pumc.link/2023NB.
