Disciple Bible Classes Start in January

Exciting news! Disciple Bible Studies return in January 2022. Two classes will be offered this year, Disciple Fast Track and Invitation to the Psalms.

Disciple Fast Track will cover the Old and New Testaments. The class will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday evenings starting in January and continue through May.

Invitation to the Psalms is an eight-week course starting in January on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m.
Classes meet once a week, generally for one hour, and include video instruction and helpful conversation. Class signups with dates and times will begin December 12 online at pumc.org/next-steps and in the main lobby.

These studies will be a great way to start the New Year and help everyone become better disciples of Jesus Christ. Picture yourself joining a small group, learning about the Bible with other followers of Jesus, and starting the new year with purpose and intent. The table is set, and all you have to do is sign up and say, “Here I am.”

Family Promise Needs Your Help

You have an opportunity to show the Big Love of God by providing meals for Family Promise. If you or someone you know would like to provide a meal one day during the week of December 12-18 for these families, please let me know. Also, let me know how we can assist you (reimbursement for supplies, providing containers, etc.). Sometimes you like to partner with someone to put meals together, which is excellent, too!

Currently, meals need to be delivered to the Resource Center by 4 pm or divided into family packages and delivered to the WoodSprings Suites Hotel sometime between 4:30 pm-6 pm on your selected day.

If you would like to participate but cannot do so this week, we will be providing meals next February 15-19, 2022.

Second Saturday Lunch

We invite you to come in and pick up a carry-out meal between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on December 11, 2021. Please enter through door 14 and go to the kitchen, and someone will be there to get your meal. If you know of someone who might need a meal, visit “Ministries” on pumc.org or on the pumc.org kiosk located in the Main Lobby by the big blue wall.

Mitten Tree

PUMC will be collecting hats, gloves or mittens, and scarves through December to keep children warm during the winter months. Mitten trees located in the lobby near the PUMC office and the north lobby are ready to receive your gifts of warmth! Please “decorate” them with mittens, gloves, scarves, hats, etc. Your gifts will be given to Fletcher Place Community Center in Indianapolis, IPS School #34, and other local ministries to help keep their students warm.

Faithful and Inclusive

The Bible, Sexuality, and The United Methodist Church

Pastor Charlie Wilfong and Rebecca Blackwelder will host Faithful and Inclusive, The Bible, Sexuality, and The United Methodist Church in the Worship Annex, January 9 – February 13 from 12:15 – 1:15 p.m.
Faithful and Inclusive, developed by Rev. Rob Fuquay, the senior pastor at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, allows you to gain an understanding of how United Methodists can be both obedient to God’s Word and fully welcoming to LGBTQ persons in the church.
For more information or to register, visit Next Steps at pumc.org or via the pumc.org kiosk located in the main lobby by the blue wall.

Alternate Christmas Gifts

Mission Committee is once again planning an Alternate Christmas Gift program.
You can give a monetary gift to any of the missions listed below during the Sundays of December. You will receive a lovely card and description of the mission you choose to give to your friend or relative recipient. The responses from the receivers have been very positive. And you know you are helping with the missions also by your gift.

Projects chosen for this year are :

  • The Madina School and Hospital,
  • Family Assistance,
  • PUMC Saturday Lunch Outreach (Last Saturday and Second Saturday lunches),
  • Family Promise,
  • and Sheltering Wings.

There will be a small flyer available Sundays in December with a description of each project. Thank you for your interest and support of these ways to minister to many people.
