Quarterly Food Drive: Help Support Local Pantries

It’s time for PUMC’s quarterly food drive, and we’re asking for your help to support local pantries and the families they serve. This is a wonderful chance to give back and show kindness to those facing food insecurity in our community. You can make a difference by filling a grocery bag with non-perishable items—think canned goods, pasta, rice, or peanut butter—and dropping it off at the church.

Prefer to make a financial donation? That’s great too! Your contributions will help us buy fresh produce and other essential items that local pantries need most.

Together, we can ensure that everyone has access to nourishing meals, especially during challenging times. Thank you for your continued generosity and support. For more details, feel free to reach out to the church office. Let’s come together to make a big impact!

The Cold is Coming: Help Our Homeless Outreach

As winter approaches and temperatures begin to drop, the PUMC Homeless Outreach is once again reaching out to the community for much-needed donations to support those in need. The cold weather can be brutal, especially for those without a safe, warm place to sleep. One of the most effective ways to help the homeless during this season is by providing warm clothing and blankets to protect them from the harsh conditions.

We are currently requesting donations of blankets, hoodies, sweatpants, sweatshirts, and gently used winter coats. Because the homeless often rely on layering to stay warm, we especially need larger sizes, such as XL and XXL for sweatshirts and coats. However, for sweatpants and other bottom layers, waist sizes ranging from medium to large are the most useful.

Your ongoing support has made a real difference, and we’re grateful for the generosity of our community. In addition to donations, we are also looking for volunteers. If you’re interested in getting involved, we could use a helping hand in the kitchen or on the van as we deliver food and supplies to those in need.

If you would like more information or are interested in volunteering, please contact Sandy Galyan or Rick Jones. Together, we can continue to make a positive impact in the lives of those who are struggling this winter. Thank you for your continued support of this important ministry!

It’s that exciting time of year again—our annual Trunk-or-Treat is just around the corner! We invite you to dress up, bring your festive spirit, and join us for an evening of fun. There are plenty of ways you can get involved to make this event a success:

  • Decorate a Trunk: Bring your creativity! You or your group can decorate a car trunk and hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters.
  • Cupcake Walk Helpers: Assist with organizing the Cupcake Walk during the event.
  • Donate Wrapped Treats: We’re looking for wrapped cupcakes or cookies for the Cupcake Walk.
  • Fire/S’mores Station Helpers: Help set up and manage the S’mores station for a toasty treat.
  • S’mores Donations: You can also contribute supplies by providing graham crackers, large marshmallows, or Hershey’s chocolate bars.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please email Jeannine Neuen at jcneuen@aol.com or sign up online at pumc.org/trunk-or-treat. You can also sign up in person at the Sign-Up Table in the Main Lobby this Sunday, October 20, after the 8:45 and 10:00 a.m. worship services.

Let’s make this a fantastic night for our community!

🌟 Join Us This Sunday, 10/13, to Celebrate Charity Aton! 🌟

This Sunday marks a special, yet bittersweet moment as we come together to celebrate Charity Aton’s last Sunday at Plainfield United Methodist Church (PUMC). Charity has been a valued part of our church family, and we want to give her a heartfelt send-off as she and Sonny embark on this new chapter of their lives.

After each service, we will be holding a reception in her honor, where we can gather to express our gratitude, share memories, and wish them well in their journey.

If you’d like to contribute, cards and love gifts are welcome to help Charity and Sonny settle into their new home. Let’s show them the love and support they’ve always given us!

We look forward to celebrating with you all this Sunday. Let’s make it a day filled with love, gratitude, and blessings. 💖

Join Us in Prayer for Florida

Hurricane Milton made landfall just South of Tampa Bay. We invite everyone to pray for the people of Florida, facing another devastating storm. With Milton impacting the same areas that were hit by Hurricane Helene, it is a critical time for communities in the region.

Please pray for the safety, resilience, and strength of those impacted as they endure another challenge. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, first responders, and all those involved in disaster response efforts.

UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is playing a pivotal role in this crisis. They are actively reaching out to conferences across the southeastern U.S., coordinating preparations, and offering support as communities brace for the impact of Hurricane Milton. Your support will directly contribute to these crucial efforts.

Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by Hurricane Milton. To donate to the relief efforts, please visit pumc.link/hurricanemilton. We are deeply grateful for your support, and we assure you that 100% of your gift will be used to directly assist those in need.

Crop Walk Update

We are thrilled to announce that 48 walkers participated in this year’s Crop Walk, raising over $2,400 to fight hunger in our community and beyond! While the final totals are still being tallied, this is already a fantastic achievement. A special highlight of this year’s walk was the participation of many first-time walkers from Plainfield United Methodist Church (PUMC) and other local churches. Your enthusiasm and dedication were truly inspiring!

A huge thank you to our congregation and the wider community for your generous support of this Mission’s ministry. Whether you walked, donated, or helped spread the word, your contributions have made a real difference. Together, we are not only raising funds but also raising awareness about hunger and food insecurity. Let’s continue this momentum as we look forward to the final totals. Every step truly counts!

Youth Gathering kicks off at 9:40 a.m. in Room 204 with donuts and snacks!
At 10:00 a.m., head to Room 200 for Youth Worship, where we’ll dive into “AI 1: Think – Believe – Behave.” Are you ever judged for what you have or do? Do you measure others the same way? Life can feel out of control when success doesn’t bring a sense of worth. Let’s talk about how who you are is more than what you do. Read John 8:31-33 and Colossians 3:9-10 to prepare!

Before worship, youth gather in the second-floor lounge for fellowship. Volunteers, we need snacks like donuts and juice! Sign up near the youth rooms or text Bob for open dates.
