The Meaning of the Altar Candles

We are thankful that many of you have faithfully and generously given to the endowments at PUMC. Because you donated to the Worship Endowment, the Committee was able to fund a special grant to the Altar Guild, which allowed us to purchase new candles for our altar.
You may have noticed that each candlestick has three steps as its base. These steps symbolize the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Candles represent Christ as the Light of the World (John 8:12). Having two candles on our altar reminds us that Jesus was human and God. We light the Christ candle first (on the right) to invite God’s presence into our lives and seek His guidance and protection. It serves as a reminder that the Holy Spirit is coming into the presence of our worshipping community. The candle on the left is the gospel candle, which should never be lit alone. It is the second candle we light but the first to be extinguished at the end of a service.

After the gospel candle has been extinguished at the end of the service, an acolyte will relight the candlelighter from the Christ candle before extinguishing the flame. This light is carried out of the sanctuary to show that Jesus Christ is for all people everywhere and that His light is going into the world where believers are to serve. Go, and let your light shine!

Kitchen Renovation Begins January 15, 2024!

The Transforming for Tomorrow committee wants to inform you that the kitchen will undergo a much-needed renovation from January 15th to February 28th, 2024. As a result, the kitchen will be closed during this period and will not be operational.

We understand that this may cause some inconvenience. Still, please rest assured that the project committee is working diligently to ensure that adaptive and alternative plans are implemented in collaboration with ministries and events.

If you have any specific concerns or questions about this renovation, please do not hesitate to contact Kimberly Meyer and/or Debbie Perona, who will gladly assist you.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Get Your Jingle Bells Ready

The PUMC Children’s Christmas Program will be held on Wednesday, December 13th, at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary. This year’s theme is “Jingle Jam.” We will have cookies, crafts, singing, worship, and more to help us celebrate the Christmas season and find meaning in the coming of Jesus! Everyone is invited, especially our weekday families, children, and the young at heart. This is a great way to meet people you might not know across PUMC and celebrate the season! If you are interested in helping prepare for this event, please contact Charity, our Director of Kids and Children’s Programming, at caton@pumc.org.
