The operating budget for Plainfield United Methodist Church is more than line items on a spreadsheet. It’s a story of love in action. See how PUMC uses budget dollars in 2023 to show God’s BIG Love and help others grow in faith.

At PUMC, we want every child to know they are loved by Jesus. It’s so important that “serving the children of Plainfield” is our one big thing — where we want to serve the community with such impact that the love of God in Jesus Christ is revealed and noticed. We aim to show God’s love through programs for children of all ages, from birth to kindergarten through high school. Examples include preschool programming, before-and-after-school child care, an interactive Sunday School curriculum, seasonal events like Easter Eggstravaganza and Trunk or Treat, and a vibrant youth ministry engaged in mission throughout the United States and beyond.
We hope that everyone who participates in worship on Sunday morning can praise God in the most meaningful manner for them. This may look like our traditional Classic worship experience at 8:45 and 10:00 a.m., contemporary NewDay Praise at 10 a.m., Youth worship at 10:00 a.m., a seat in worship, or an enhanced live stream experience on pumc.org. No matter how someone chooses to engage with us, we always seek to create a space and an experience where people who don’t know Jesus can meet him, those who do know Jesus can grow in that relationship, and everyone can find a warm welcome and safe place to ask questions and talk about faith.
United Methodists are passionate about making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. At PUMC, we believe that powerful catalysts for transformation are learning and fellowship. Whether you want to read the Bible in a year, engage in a churchwide study, or join a support group, PUMC has a seat with your name on it! Recent offerings include “Disciple Bible Study” short-term classes and Lectio Divina reflections twice a month. You’ll also find ongoing adult Sunday School classes, social groups for all ages, and gatherings for men and women.
Service is one of PUMC’s core values. Our congregation is motivated by God’s BIG Love to be the hands and feet for countless outreach initiatives in Plainfield, Hendricks County, and around the globe. It starts in our backyard with programs like Monday Night Homeless Ministry, Second & Last Saturday Lunch, and the Family Assistance Fund. Support extends to local organizations like Family Promise of Hendricks County, St. Mark’s Food Pantry, and Sheltering Wings. It culminates in adult and youth mission trips throughout the year. Proceeds from PUMC’s annual Fish Fry support ongoing outreach and mission efforts.
PUMC’s facility on 600 Simmons Street serves as a home base for our core areas of service and ministry. Our 41,000-square-foot, two-story building allows us to host classic, contemporary, and youth-centered worship services concurrently each Sunday. Our digital exterior signage, new carpet, and main lobby refresh aim to make guests and members feel welcome and at home. Our classrooms are filled with children, small groups, committees, mission teams, pastors, and staff. Our full-sized kitchen is a hub for
2022 Narrative Budget ongoing ministry and outreach initiatives like bereavement meals and the annual Fish Fry. We open the sanctuary for countless concerts, music programs, and theater experiences when safety protocols allow. And we recently took on a long-term loan for replacing PUMC’s roof and HVAC system. Our property is one of the most potent tools for ministry we have, and we don’t take it for granted.
If PUMC’s building is a home base, support systems keep our home healthy and strong. From kitchen supplies to communion elements, this budget area provides for the critical tools, equipment, and other resources required to execute countless ministries. Examples include printers, regular organ maintenance, in-house media equipment, live-streaming services, office supplies, media subscriptions like RightNow Media, music licenses, digital properties like our website, plus any “odds or ends” you might think of. We couldn’t do what we do without them.
For more information about PUMC giving, expenses, and spiritual initiatives such as Transforming for Tomorrow and the Music Guild, don’t hesitate to contact the church office at 317.839.2319 or visit pumc.org.

We invite you to come in and pick up a carry-out meal between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of the month. Please enter through door 14 and go to the kitchen; someone will be there to get your meal. If you know of someone who might need a meal, visit pumc.org/ministries.

The New Year is here! Join us in serving our neighbors, the families staying with Family Promise, while they work to get on their feet. Plainfield United Methodist Church (PUMC) will provide evening meals for Family Promise on January 22-28, 2023.
The families are now in the new shelter – Almost Home – at 7233 E. County Road 300 S., Plainfield. They aim for a 6:00 p.m. supper time. Meals can be dropped off at or before 6:00 p.m. They have a kitchen fully stocked with plates, cookware, utensils, etc. You are welcome and encouraged to stay and have supper with the families. A Family Promise overnight staff person will be there by 6:00 p.m. (usually earlier).
We will receive the family information the week before we host to know how many meals are needed. It can be up to six families of varying sizes. (Currently, there are 6 families, 7 adults, and 14 children.) Meals are served family style.
Contact Mary Raver at mraver@pumc.org with questions or to sign up for a meal!

Each year the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church lifts the Bishop’s Offering for Children to support children’s ministries locally and worldwide. PUMC will receive this offering on Sunday, December 18, in the available special envelopes that Sunday.
Thank you for your generous support of this offering.

On Christmas Eve, December 24, PUMC will receive a special offering at all worship experiences (4, 7, 9, and 11 p.m.) to support local families and children in need. The entirety of that evening’s offerings will go to ministries and programs that support and assist children, youth, and families in the local area. These gifts carry the spirit of Christmas all year long! Thank you for your generosity.
