Call for Coffee Cans for Angel Tree

One valuable resource that is needed for PUMC’s Angel Tree Ministry every year is coffee cans. We decorate these cans for use in delivering home-baked Christmas Cookies to the Angel Tree children. Ideally, we would like to have metal coffee cans, but we realize that they are hard to come by. Viable alternatives are round 240 and 270 cup plastic coffee cans. (We cannot use square cans or 210 cup plastic coffee cans.) Please drop off clean, empty coffee cans at the Donation Depot near Door 1 to help with this important part of the Christmas Angel Tree Ministry.

If you have any questions, contact Rev. Ken Loudenback at kloudenback@pumc.org.

Fall Food Drive

Plainfield UMC (PUMC) needs non-perishable items for the local food pantries we serve.
There is still a need. Food pantry shelves are empty in many cases. We ask everyone to bring food early for our annual Fall Food Drive. We will distribute bags and lists on August 7. We will collect and distribute your generous gifts on August 14 and 21. Anything non-perishable will be greatly appreciated!

Alternatively, you may write a check to PUMC with “Food Drive” in the memo. You may also give a monetary donation through SecureGive, available on our website at pumc.org/give. Thank you each so much!

Family Promise Meals: August 15-20, 2022

PUMC is scheduled to provide meals for Family Promise from August 15 – 20.
Family Promise is close to being able to welcome families to their new shelter, Almost Home! We will find out soon if we need to package meals by families for the hotel or if we can return to family-style meals at the new location. If you can provide a dinner one night for our next host week, August 15 – 20, or have any questions, please contact Mary Raver at mraver@pumc.org.

2022 Basic Ministry Budget: Service

This week, we highlight the Basic Ministry Budget.
The operating budget for Plainfield United Methodist Church is more than line items on a spreadsheet. It’s a story of love in action. PUMC uses gifts to the budget to show God’s BIG Love and help others grow in faith.

Out of every dollar you generously give to support the Basic Ministry Budget, 15 cents of it supports Service.

Service: $146,716

Service is one of PUMC’s core values, and our congregation is motivated by God’s BIG Love to be the hands and feet for countless outreach initiatives in Plainfield, Hendricks County, and around the globe. It starts in our own backyard with programs like Monday Night Homeless Ministry, Second & Last Saturday Lunch, and the Family Assistance Fund. Support extends to local organizations like Family Promise of Hendricks County, St. Mark’s Food Pantry, and Sheltering Wings, and it culminates in adult and youth mission trips throughout the year. Proceeds from PUMC’s annual Fish Fry support ongoing outreach and mission efforts.

Total 2022 Basic Ministry Budget: $959,782

For more information about the PUMC Basic Ministry Budget and the Narrative Budget, see the January or February Circuit Rider or check out pumc.link/2022-Narrative-Budget.

Community Open House

You are invited to a Community Open House on Saturday, July 30, from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. at Almost Home at 7233 East 300 South in Plainfield, IN.

Families experiencing homelessness in Hendrick County will now have an overnight shelter with Family Promise while working toward their own home! See what all the excitement is about at Almost Home! More information is available at familypromisehendrickscounty.org.

Faithful and Inclusive

The Bible, Sexuality, and The United Methodist Church

Pastor Charlie Wilfong and Rebecca Blackwelder will host the six week study Faithful and Inclusive, The Bible, Sexuality, and The United Methodist Church in the Worship Annex, starting Sunday, August 7 at 12:15 p.m. There is still time to sign up and childcare is available if, needed!

Faithful and Inclusive, developed by Rev. Rob Fuquay, the senior pastor at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, allows you to gain an understanding of how United Methodists can be both obedient to God’s Word and fully welcoming to LGBTQ persons in the church.

For more information or to register, visit Next Steps at pumc.org.

2022 PUMC Annual Community Fish Fry

The 2022 PUMC Annual Fish Fry is July 29 and 30!

There will be sign-ups for fish fry volunteers in the main lobby at PUMC on Sunday mornings, July 3, 10, 17, and 24. Please stop at the tables to learn more and find a place to serve!
PUMC’s Annual Community Fish Fry is one of the most significant outreach events of the year.

We welcome thousands of neighbors and friends and serve tons of food. The profits from the fish fry support missions near and far. Scout troops, youth groups, the Missions Committee, and other groups directly benefit from volunteering for this event. We are proud of the volunteers each year who participate by baking desserts, frying fish, serving the main line, and so much more.

From humble beginnings of welcoming home troops from WWII, this annual event has been embraced by the entire Plainfield area community. Please plan on enjoying the excellent food and hospitality with us at this year’s fish fry.

Fish Fry Merch Available

You can get your official PUMC Fish Fry Merch at http://www.pumc.org/fish-fry-merch. There are many different styles and colors of shirts and other fun stuff to choose from. All profits go to help support missions near and far.

Media Ministry

Worship at Plainfield UMC incorporates technology to add meaning and relevance to the worship experience.

We are searching for volunteers to help ensure our musicians and pastors can be seen and heard on Sunday mornings. We currently have open positions for sound board operators and live streamers in both worship services. (Live stream involves operating a joystick controller for the cameras. It’s like a video game! Lots of fun!)

No experience is necessary. Everything can be taught in the matter of a couple Sundays. Come help make Sunday morning worship happen!
Visit pumc.org/serve to volunteer or ask questions.
